Ski Bum Autobiography

Before I was born, my father was a ski bum. When my dad graduated college, he moved out west to Colorado to live the ski bum dream: eat, sleep, ski, repeat. Once, he decided he wore the ski bum identity out, he moved back to Connecticut. There he met my mom and then came along me. Until I was about seven, my dad took his break from skiing so that he could take care of me along with my mom. As a kid, he would always tell me his crazy stories about skiing out west and how amazing the snow is. One thing that he told me really stuck with me, after every story about skiing he would say “Skiing is in your blood, Morgan” and I really believed it. I don’t know what took so long, but finally my dad decided to take my brother and I skiing in Vermont. I was ecstatic, I couldn’t wait. After my …show more content…
Our vacation trips to Vermont, turned into weekend trips. My dad continued teaching newbies how to ski, and I moved on to ski racing. From years of seeing my dad teach skiing, it was only a matter of time before I hopped on that boat. So once I was 15, I applied for a ski instructor job at the mountain. This was way out of my comfort zone because normally I am a pretty quiet person and I hate public speaking, so this was a huge step for me to take. At the interview we were separated into groups and we all had to teach something to the group at any time during the day. The entire time, my heart was beating a million times a minute, just waiting for my turn. Finally, once it was my turn, my stomach was practically in knots and I felt like air was being taken from my lungs. Of course me, being my awkward self, I could barely teach the task the instructor had given me. I kept stuttering, and saying ‘Um’, and creating awkward silence. Probably one of the worst experiences of my life, but surprisingly I was asked to move on to the next part of the interview. I made it all the way through, and successfully got the job, by some

After being at school for what seemed like forever, I put on my boots and headed to the ski lift as I looked at the snow glow in the cold February sun. As I waited in line, John was grabbing ice balls the size of my hand, then throwing them at my back. Without anything to throw back him, I felt as helpless as an amputee in a war-zone. Even though Jack was next to me checking my ticket, he did not seem to care that someone was throwing ice balls at me. He didn’t even care to look at my lift ticket which explains how I got on the lift.…

The weaknesses I encountered after listening back at my interview is the nervousness I displayed, the pace of my deliverance was fast, and the awkward moments of silence. For most individuals who gets nervous will speak faster than they normally would. Avoiding periods of silence would be something I need to work on, as I tend to compensate the periods of silence with filler words such as ums and ahs. Organization is a strength I attained for this interview. I developed a step-by-step practical template using the episodic history…

I got better and better, and my dad supported me, helping me with whatever he could, proud. It was the same when I started gymnastics.…
