The skeletal system becomes stronger with short term exercise. It is also able to withstand a bigger impact which makes it harder to break a bone. The cartilage at the end of the bones are also effected by short term exercise by being less susceptible to injury. One negative side of short term exercise is, in exercises like running and jogging, more prolonged decreases in bone strength because of the high impact. There are also some long term effects on the skeletal system that are caused by exercise. Lifting weights consistently increases bone density. It can also stimulate the growth of new bone tissues and slows bone loss. In other words, long term exercise can cause hypertrophy which builds up bones, and lack of exercise can cause atrophy. Atrophy is when your bones get weaker and less dense. Exercising long term has many benefits. Bad posture is bad for your skeletal system. Bad posture can cause misalignment on the spine. If you have good posture, the spine is aligned correctly, and is not angled to one side or the other. Another effect of bad posture is joint stress. When your spine is misaligned, unnecessary pressure is put on joints which can cause long term pain. Growth issues is another effect of bad posture. This can cause a loss in height. Lastly, bad posture can result in osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is the degradation of the connective tissue between joints. This is a disease …show more content…
These bones have to last you for many years. Another reason to take care of your skeletal system is because our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. We need to honor God with our bodies by taking care of them so we do not have any long term effects that will affect the way we serve God and others. We usually need physical strength for serving others, and without a healthy skeletal system, that just is not possible. God gave us our bodies, and we need to glorify him through taking care of our bodies and skeletal
