This movie is about a young writers struggle to make a name for herself while also trying to change the world of civil rights. She gets a job writing advice columns for the newspaper to start out; but then she takes it upon herself to voice the inequalities done by whites to house maids. She takes many accounts of mistreatment from the local house maids of her home town in Mississippi. In the same instance she has to keep it a secret because what she was doing was illegal at the time. She puts all of her companionships and reputation on the line in this gripping tale.
