"One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do,"this quote by Henry Ford reconnects when it comes to facing something you're afraid of; our fears. When we get over fears, we realize only then that we had the courage before to do that something we were afraid of doing. One time I was afraid was when I started ice skating. I was at a party for my younger sister's friend at an ice ring.…
Journal 2 Response The second journal in The Alternative by Galen Leonhardy explores his various relationships with students, teachers, and parents. Leonhardy discusses personal dilemmas regarding the proper interaction, and reporting of incidents between himself and the students, along with their families. Leonhardy teaches at an alternative school, and most of these students and families have very complex and dark variables in their daily lives. Leonhardy tries to draw on various cultural experiences with the Nez Perce tribe and the movie Schindler's List to bring in lessons of racism and dehumanizing in hopes of enlightening his students on how to better interact with different people.…

Whether it's education wise or life wise the choices and decisions one makes make up his future. Although many blame the parents and teachers it is ultimately the students that should be held accountable for their failure because it is their responsibility to succeed and students need to learn to meet the expectations of others. Yet, many still blame a teacher or the parents if a student chooses to fail. From the…
During my senior year, Mr.Davies once said, ¨achievement implies struggle.¨ However, I believe that not every student or person is able to overcome the struggles they face. Therefore, not every student will be able to reach the achievement that they truly desire for. Children all over the world attend school each and everyday throughout America.…
School is an obstacle that everyone has to deal with. Most of the students struggle at home. They struggle with drugs and alcohol use. Most of the time the average amount want to graduate. Most of them gave up on their teachers.…
Failure is a choice. This means that if you don’t make the choice to do the right things then you’re choosing to fail. In the book Firetarter, Andy makes the right choice to protect his daughter from The Shop. However, if he made the choice to flee then his daughter could've died.…
I always have followed the saying “if you work hard in life now you will not have to work as hard later.” This saying applies not only to how I work during school now, but how I participate in activities outside of school. To excel in what you want to achieve in life, I believe you need to put in the best effort and try your best in whatever you do. Living by this idea has helped me become a leader in the things I do. It has helped me put others at the same standard as myself and it helps me show my character.…
Over time, with the development of the field of speech language pathology, there have been a variety of findings on the cause and effects of test bias within children from multicultural population, therefore leading to the implementations and improvement of various educational legislations which effect how special services such as speech is provided to individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) populations. For example, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975 has mandated that all assessment or test materials are not racially or culturally bias against various culturally and linguistically diverse populations (Taylor & Payne, 1983). Leading up to these laws were various court cases such as Larry R. versus Riles,…
College is definitely not a bad thing, but what would happen if every high school student who graduated attended college? Is college the right choice for everyone? I personally do not believe that college is the right choice for everyone because, all high schoolers have a different aptitude for learning, with every graduate attending it might cause overcrowding, and lastly there are many different options after high school that graduates can choose from that works for them. Every single person is different, so that means everyone's brains work differently.…
Despite having good grades, my educational life has been a struggle. During my education, I have faced obstacles, including: financial issues, feeling depressed, time management problems, lack of sleep, and confusion. I’m not going to lie, college is tough and expensive. At times, I feel like it’s the end of the world for me when I find myself not having enough money to purchase my college books that aren’t affordable. Throughout those situations, I realize how important it is to have money saved.…
Working while in college Working while still going to college is something all students should do in my opinion. Most students don’t have the money to pay up front, neither does their parents. So they should work to get some money on the side and not depend on student loans. It is also good, because they don’t have to depend on their parents, as much and learn more responsibilities. People might argue that working while attending college can cause students to not have the time to study or do homework, but in reality it just all comes down on the effort of the student.…
Under the Surface The word literacy can cause an overwhelming amount of stress in one's mind. Growing up, I have felt the pressure weigh on me even when I began to think of the word literacy. This thought of pressure and stress has caused me to become unmotivated when being motivated is the key element to reading and writing. I had it set in my mind at which there was no purpose behind literacy. I just saw it as lines smothered together and people would proclaim them as “literature”.…
