Sjogren’s syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease that is characterized by many in the medical field as an inflammatory disease that effects the exocrine glands. It is considered to cause dryness of the mouth and eyes, chronic fatigue, muscle and joint pain. Sjogren’s syndrome can manifest in two categories, Primary Sjogren’s syndrome (PSS) which mean you only have Sjogren’s as an autoimmune disease and Secondary Sjogren’s syndrome which is accompanied by one or more autoimmune diseases (i.e. Lupus or Rheumatoid arthritis). A study was conducted in Stavanger University Hospital on 71 Sjogren’s syndrome patients whom were positively diagnosed based on the American European Consensus Classification (AECC) and 71 healthy individuals.
