Sjc Listening Style

Decent Essays
Just hours before I was set to go to back SJC, I heard my mother flying up the stairs and ran into my room saying "that my dog pulled her fingernail on the fence and her and dad are rushing her to emergency care." I just said "okay". I used the term time-oriented. It's a type of listening style the prefers brief, concise speech (Alberts, et. al 171). Also I used the term people-oriented. Means that I have a personal relationship with my mother. After they left I wanted by the phone and watched my other dog. I texted my mother two hours later asking if my dog was okay. Turns out that my dog needed surgery and ended up just getting stitches.

The experience that I went through and that I would like to share was when I played golf in the beginning of the year. I was fine managing my schedule during the first week or two of school, but then I started getting more and more homework as the weeks went on. I had a hard time keeping up with my school work and playing golf. I practiced every day after school and I didn’t really have any time after school to do my homework. Playing golf took up basically all of my time because I played it 5-7 days a week between practicing with the school team or practicing with my golf instructor/coach.…

A simple, and possibly the best, way to educate ourselves on those who are dying from a terminal cancer could be listening and asking questions when we do not know something about them or their condition rather than just assuming the answer. Listening to learn, understand, and empathize would prevent us from stereotyping, assuming differences/similarities, being prejudice, and simply just offending someone due to our ignorance when we speak to or about them. This is definitely a good approach to learning more about anyone who may differ from us, no matter the scenario. If we fail to adapt the way we communicate, and we are not aware of what we are saying and its possible impact on the other person(s) then we may create conflict within that relationship. It could possibly make people view us in a negative way just for the simple fact that we were not mindful of what we were saying.…

We had to pretend we were in that moment of time where the occasion is occurring and give a speech based off of that occasion. I did my special occasion speech on my friends Rachel and Thai’s wedding. I noticed during this speech after watching it, I did have some of the similar and same habits as I did in my persuasive speech. I used my hands a lot, I swayed my body throughout the speech, was very fidgety and used “um” and “like” a lot as word fillers. I noticed I did not have as good eye contact in this speech as I did in the persuasive speech because I had to do a lot of thinking to remember where what was going to say in the next part of the story I was giving.…

I chose this goal because I want/need a job and I want my own money because instead of asking my parents for money I can just get the money out of my pocket. I barely ask my parents for money, but still, I would like to have my own money because my sister always pays for me everywhere we go. I would like to do the same back to her. I’ve procrastinated so bad that I’m doing my project in the last week that its due because I already have a busy schedule and that I’m trying to fit another thing into my schedule.…
