Sixth Ward Research Paper

For various reasons, I believe that Sixth Ward is a great place to learn. Every morning the announcement closes with, “A true blue jay will just be responsible, always be safe, yearn to learn, and show respect, have a happy and wonderful day!” Students typically recite this along with the assistant principal. Also, visitors can find this saying along the walls of the buildings and inside the classroom as well as other motivational quotes. As my days are becoming months, I’m realizing more that the educators strongly believe in their students and believe they are capable of achieving anything.

My personal attributes that have contributed to a successful experience are that I’m friendly, organized, patient, compassionate, thoughtful, creative, and I have no problem working in teams. In my opinion, to enjoy being a teacher, you have to be very patient. I’ve had both good days and bad days at Sixth Ward. There are some days when I’m honestly waiting for the dismal bell to ring because I’m in desperate need of “me time”. Some days getting students to work and stay on task is quite difficult, and this becomes frustrating for Mrs. Andrea and myself, but I try my best to remain patient and calm. I also believe that to be a good teacher, you need to be creative and willing to work together. I’ve helped Mrs. Andrea come up with several lesson plan ideas and activities for the students. Since Mrs. Andrea is the Enhancement teacher, working in teams is significant to her job. She has to be willing to work with the other core teachers to find out her student’s progress in their other core classes. They’re many times when teachers will come into our classroom and ask us if we could work on graphs with the 6th graders, or allow the 7th graders to finish their Social Studies task during our class period, so it’s important to be willing to work together and help each other out. Thus, without having these personal attributes, I don’t believe my internship would have been this

Residential schools were made compulsory for First Nation children to attend by the amendment of the Indian Act in 1884 into the closing decades of the 20th century. (Restoule) The federal government created the schools’ system and the Christian churches administered the schools and the education styles. (http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/a-history-of-residential-schools-in-canada-1.702280) Residential schools were built to serve two purposes: to remove and isolate the native children from their homes, families, traditions, and cultures and to assimilate them into the mainstream of the Canadian Christian culture. The system was created by the assumptions of many, that the Aboriginal cultures and their spiritual beliefs were inferior and unequal…

Gothic, by definition, is a reflection of the popular principles and styles of Medieval Europe. The Gothic style was most popular at this time; it was popular before the enlightenment in which people were turning away from dark Gothic structures and moving towards being able to have opinions, balance, and truth. Gothic culture promotes a sense of unbalance, it fully allows for fantasy to cloud reality. Ghosts, haunted houses, darkness, and fiction are inherently Gothic. Books such as The House Next Door, by Anne Siddons, play with Gothic ideals especially in its depiction of architecture.…

During my internship experience, I learned a lot of things that I thought I knew but are misconstrued on. With that being said, I know everything must be done in decent order or this will cause chaos and lead to confusion. I also learned everything takes patience and is very time- consuming. I became frustrated, so many times and just wanted to give up, but I had to remind myself that hard times are going to come and everything is going to work out. Many times I sat on my bed crying because it seems like everything piled on me at one time.…

The differences between Hareton Earnshaw and Linton Heathcliff’s childhoods are that Hareton grew up as a lonely orphan subjected to Heathcliff’s severe abuse from an early age, whereas Linton’s loving mother raised him through his childhood in a nice, pampered lifestyle. In Wuthering Heights, by Emily Brontë, Hareton is more pitiable than Linton since he was raised as a pawn of Heathcliff’s revenge and his naivety of this maltreatment ruined his life. Hareton’s ignorance of Heathcliff’s deliberate animosity is pitiful because Hareton genuinely believes that Heathcliff is a good man. Heathcliff exploited this trust by denying Hareton education and forcing him to work as a servant. Heathcliff admits multiple times to using Hareton for revenge:…

I am applying for the National Council/National Park Service internships because they present an opportunity for me to grow more as a learner. Coming into college my passion was for people. I wanted to become a social studies teacher to have an impact on the next generation. While I do not think this was a naive objective, I have come to understand that phrase to be quite vague. What I have learned in college is that the essential skill to having an impact on people is to become a committed learner yourself.…

Both as a theme and genre within literature, romance is an undying force, enduring the test of time. Captivating countless generations, writers who remain relevant novelists often focus on a melodramatic and idealistic story of adolescents falling in love, consequently depicting young love inaccurately. Guided by selfish desire, adolescent love is fervent and destructive, unlike mature love which is willing to change and compromise. Novelists scarcely craft successful stories on the darker aspects of adolescent love, with Emily Brontë being one of the fortunate few. Capturing first love as it is: childish, messy and undoubtedly foolish, Brontë depicts a realistic portrait of human affection within her novel, “Wuthering Heights”.…

After reviewing my internship log and reflecting on other activities embedded in the different courses, I found activities that were directly related to school improvement. I participated in many activities that led to school improvement at the school where I currently work. For example, in my Contemporary Issues in American Education class I prepared a report on our school concerning teacher absences. I made a chart of the number of days certified teachers were absent each month of the 2014-2015 school year. This report gave insight on how teacher absences impact student learning.…
