Six Feet Under The Show Essay

The show Six Feet Under is a show that is an ensemble type of show revolving around one character that is Nate. The rest of the ensemble consists of Nate’s immediate family. The pilot lays out the rest of the season starting with the death of their father and flashbacks from the families’ younger days. Nate expected to come home for the holidays and have everything be normal and how it always had been, but was shocked to find out that his father had died. Nate becomes disappointed that his job that was supposed to be temporary had now become his career.

Along with this theme, the characters in the pilot are not bothered by death, but rather intrigued and fascinated with it. This theme is evident when Enrico is talking with Nate about his work. He tells Nate about a couple that was involved in a murder- suicide and how it was his job to make them look good again. While telling him this story, he talks about all the details he put into that job to make the couple look good again.
The tone throughout the show seems to be very dark due to the content in the episode. This whole episode revolves around death and how the subject interests the characters since it is apart of their job. The genre of the show is a drama that revolves around death and how the characters in the show are running away from the fact that one day they themselves will eventually die.
