Jargon is language used within a specific type of company or organization. For example, a doctor could speak with jargon to communicate with other doctors but if he is trying to give a talk for the relatives of his patients, jargon will only hinder clear communication. People from all walks of life know slang but trying to be professional and communicate in a business environment is very difficult when speaking with slang. Slang is something people can use with friends and family members but it has no place in the work environment. I’m from Michigan, it’s common to call soda “pop” in Michigan. However, it’s possible no one else would know what I mean by “pop” in a more professional environment or surrounded by people that aren’t from Michigan.
Sexist and racist language turns the listener off, creates bad rapport as well as creates unnecessary tension between both parties. It’s difficult, if not impossible, to do business with people who are not open and understanding. People that use sexist and racist language will never be considered clear communicators.
