Decent Essays
Irony fills contemporary language. From its use in sarcasm, comedy and just everyday conversation, irony has long exceeded from just being used as a literary device. Our culture is saturated with irony, whether we know it or not. Irony is in the middle of what is said and what is meant. Situational irony is a type of irony. This type of irony might occur when the outcome of a certain situation is completely different than what is initially expected. Situational irony can be kind of funny. For an example, I went to Dairy Queen yesterday and asked for ice cream, they told me they were out. It is called Dairy Queen! It would also be like a fire truck catching on fire. Or a traffic ticket police getting a ticket for speeding. It’s funny because

At just over 1,000 words it's a very short story indeed, it was a fun read that really drove home the idea that a lot can happen in an hour. Robert De Niro once said, “There’s nothing more ironic or contradictory than life itself”, why is life so full of irony? The definition of irony is a contrast between what is expected to happen and what actually happens. There are three types of irony, and one type is called situational irony. Situational irony means when something happens that we wouldn’t expect to happen, and an example would be if Dairy Queen ran out of ice cream. Nicole, I agree with your examples of irony; however, another form of irony in the change of environment is dramatic irony. For example, we as readers know that Baba is more than capable of working as a businessman in America, and then be just a successful as he was in Afghanistan. However, Baba will never be hired by anyone to work at a business because they do not and never will know about his background and experience. Almost every citizen in America does not know the motivation that possess Baba. You can see this in the shock Baba's and Amir's social worker had when Baba rejected their ‘free money’.…
