Ever since I could remember my life has been an amazing and insane roller coaster ride with a lot of ups, downs, twists and turns. There were a couple of significant situational issues that happened in my life and only have been resolved a couple of years ago. These issues were tough to beat but they have shaped me into the person I am today.
It all began when I started first grade, I could tell that I was different from the majority of the kids in my class. I was a slow learner, I could not comprehend what the teacher was saying half the time and I could not read at the reading level I was suppose to in first grade. After the first semester the school decided to put me in a program that would help me perform better in school. …show more content…
At first I did not mind being in this program and having these special privileges. This program made school easier and less annoying and stressful for me. Then around third grade, I was tired of everything being different for me and I wanted to be like everyone else. Also, I wanted to test myself on how I would do with the material the other kids did, so I decided to work hard and try to get out of the program. I went to a tutor everyday in the summer for four years to get ahead of the other kids in my grade level. Unfortunately, after all this hard work for the past years the school would not let me leave this program. I was very disappointed and felt all my hard work did not pay off but I was determined I was not going to give up. The reason why this was exciting for me was because it was like a fresh start or a do over. What I mean about this is the teachers would treat me like all the other kids at my level. I would have the same tests, homework, and same time to turn things in, and nothing would be modified or changed for me. Also, I would be respected by the teachers and friends and would not be looked down upon or called names like when I was in grade school. Even though the program still followed me around for the first two years of high school, but the staff was not as strict about the program than grade school. It took me a while, but my goal was accomplished I was removed from the program and was recognized on paper as a regular student like everyone
