The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods has been involved with anti-racism for countless years. Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, was concerned with the group of slaves in Louisiana in 1843 (A Bit of History). “In 1868, African Americans were banned from schools in Jeffersonville, Ind. Sisters of Providence provided classes for them after Liturgy on Sundays” (A Bit of History). For the first time in 1937, African Americans were accepted into St. John Academy. Crazy white kid beats up black kid!!” (Averett, Matthew). The video showed no reasoning behind the fight, but you can hear people laughing in the background. It was not so much the video that bothered me, as the comments below the video. A few of them were, “No fair, black boy didn’t have his homies”, “Niggas don’t fight good when no one is there to back them up” and “The white kid wasn’t “crazy.” He was fed up”; the comments go on for pages (Averett, Matthew). The reason I have listed this video as a resource is because it shows how ridiculous people are and can be. How do we know the “crazy white boy” is fed up, when we do not even know the circumstances behind the fight? It is videos like this, that make both black and white people look bad.
