Summary

One day Katerina was sitting in a secret valley looking in to the river and saw a carp. After hearing the tale about the magic carp that her neighbor told her she looked closely at it. The fish looked back at her, the her mother called Katerina to come back in the house to sleep. In her dream the magic carp was speaking to her and the magic carp told her that she had three wishes and that she had to chose wisely. Sundenly her two sisters came out of nowhere. Holena ,the youngest, wished for blue hair ribbons in her shy voice. I wished for plum dumlings squealed the middle child, Aneshka. Then even though she was homesick and wanted to go back to her home contry Katerina said, “I wish for a farm here in America.” The magic carp agreed and went back into the water. Then one by one each wish comes true.

I think that is the theme because at first she was not thankful and was homesick too, but later reilized that she was thankful for friends, family, and immigrating there in the first place. She was also thankful that she found the carp and got the farm her father wanted.
