Sister Aloysius: Is It Morally Good Person?

Improved Essays
Dictionaries contain upward of one-hundred and fifty thousand words. Every one of those words has a definition; nevertheless, everyone's brain thinks in different ways. “Good”, like any other word,-has different connotative meaning for every individual. Some people consider a certain act good while others would wait to determine it good or not based on the situation. For this reason, it is an intelligent choice to define it by describing universal qualities and analyzing previous definitions that the majority of the population can agree with. Once these requirements are set, one can come to the conclusion that Sister Aloysius is a morally good person.
The elements that come together to suggest what good really is, are the following: putting others before oneself, seeking truth, being and staying true to one’s thoughts, and failing to judge others at first glance. There are many more aspects of good than what is laid forth;, however, these characteristics alone form the base of

When it comes to the accusation brought forth by SIster James, Sister Aloysius ponders the thought. She herself has already had the suspicion that Father Flynn was inappropriately touching the boys, but instead of assuming Sister Aloysius is correct, she digs much deeper. She keeps a close eye on Father Flynn himself, and also the reactions of the boys when he is around. As she watched, she saw the boy that Sister James and her had originally thought was molested, drop his books, and Father Flynn give the boy a hug, the suspicion grew. At this point, rather than going to the board, she confronted his mother about what she had been noticing to see if he had been acting differently at home. This just shows that Sister Aloysius does not judge people by first glance; she waits until she has a lot of information that supports the truth before the truth is

Although good is defined in many ways, it essentially means obtaining the qualities that depict a virtuous, ethical and kind nature. This closely corresponds with the interpretation of good in the Bible. Eliminating all evil in the world is unattainable, however, due to this, good will always be present. An example of an act of good in the world was when people donate their food to aid those in need. Although this is simple, it provides evidence that good still opposes evil in the world.…

I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Throughout chapter 10 of the novel the children learn a plethora of secrets about their father. Next, Jen must read to Mrs. Dubose because he lost his temper and vandalized her yard. In chapter 13 the children are left alone with Calpurnia, and they learn a great deal about the black folk of Macomb. In the last two chapters, Aunt Alexandra moves in to give the children a feminine influence and a mob forms to harm Tom Robinson, but Scout manages to disperse the mob.…

In the play Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire there is a common theme of the morals in a good person. Now what really is a good person? Some may say that a good person is one that does little wrong. While others may say that a good person is someone who is fighting for work and is trying to support their children/child, and putting a roof over their heads. What is a bad person qualified as?…

Perpetually Malicious Author Stephen Kendrick once stated in his book The Love Dare,“Almost every sinful action ever committed can be traced back to a selfish motive. It is a trait we hate in other people but justify in ourselves.” Almost every iniquity in the world has been caused by narcissism. Selfishness thrives in humans, feeding off of their evilness.…

The one sentence that stood out to me was where you said that the idea that certainty could never be a set fact and that with proof, certainty is easy, but it is not always the case. I agree completely about what you said about Sister James. Sister Aloysius stated in the book that an innocent person is awfully gullible and I believe that both Sister Aloysius and Father Flynn took advantage of that trait. However, in the long run, Sister James’ thoughts seemed irrelevant to Sister Aloysius because Sister Aloysius was the one that wanted Father Flynn out of her school and she was the one that took action to get him out. Moving onto the last paragraph, I loved the last…

These expressions show how The Misfit was possibly once considered an unequivocally good person, and again reinstates O'Connor's theme of how the lines between good and evil are so easily blurred. For that in every good person, lie malicious tendencies. The foundation of good and evil is one that is recognizable across all humanity, though Flannery O'Connor easily shows her readers how that very basis not easily defined. With the two main characters of "A Good Man is Hard to Find," O'Connor uses efficient characterization to display her theme of how good and evil can be actively…

This could also show that Flynn wants to get closer to the boys for an ulterior motive. During the beginning of the book, Sister Aloysius starts to become skeptical of Father Flynn. While talking with Sister James, Aloysius states, “He’s taken an interest”, (Shanley 20). Sister Aloysius is insinuating that Father Flynn has become interested in reasons besides wanting to help them. Since there are many reasons proving his guilt and countless ways to disprove his innocence, Father Flynn is…

However, if I was in Anna’s situation I would have donated everything I could to my sister to keep her alive. The difference is that Anna had been donating since the day she was born, and I’ve never had to donate anything or give anything up because of it. Since we find out in the end that Anna wanted to donate and that Kate wanted her to fight against it so she could die, I found that I differed from Anna’s character in this aspect of the book. I wouldn’t have listened to my sister and I would have tried even harder to keep her alive.…

Decisions made by leaders around the globe affect at least one person each day. These decisions are not necessarily achieved by rational individuals. Placing those people in positions of power without the incentive to make the proper decision will result in a scenario resembling that which is portrayed in “A Good Man is Hard to Find”. Within the story, the grandmother sees herself as a lady that can manipulate her family in any way she pleases. Red Sam, the owner of The Tower, upholds these values to the same extent as her.…

A major theme of Flannery O 'Connor 's “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” is what makes a person good. There is no clear answer, neither in the text nor in life. It is safe to say that a good person can be defined as one that is honest, kind, and always tries to do what is right. It is ironic then, maybe even a bit hypocritical, that the Grandmother is one of the most immoral characters in the story and yet she spends much of her time talking about what makes people good, judging others based on little to no information about them, and trying to convince the Misfit, a serial killer that just murdered her family, of his own goodness.…

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee ‘The consequences of evilness on others and how good and evil can coexist in a person’ One main theme, which is commonly seen throughout ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, is the coexistence of good and bad people in society, and how the evilness of people can affect others. Throughout the story, Jem and Scout both start to develop and they learn how to not be affected by the malice of others. They learn through their father and from experience.…
