Sirens: A Narrative Fiction

Sirens rang out loudly in the early hours of the morning. Police cars, a fire truck, and an ambulance sped into the parking lot, one after the other. First, the sound of footsteps sprinting up the stairwell could be heard, followed by the pounding of a fist on the door. After announcing who they were several times, police officers rushed through the door of our apartment. Katherine and Michael’s lifeless bodies were strewn on the floor.; bottles of beer in their hands. I sat in the corner of the room sobbing, my face hidden by my hands. “What happened here,” one of the officers asked. "They said they wanted to end their own lives," I explained. ”I begged them not to, but before I could stop them, they sipped their beers filled with potassium cyanide, and then they just...they just…," I broke into tears before I could finish my sentence. An officer walked over to where I was sitting and patted me on the head. …show more content…
All you need to do is remember that this is not your fault." I wiped the tears from my eyes and nodded. I watched the medics come in and put the bodies of Michael and Katherine on stretchers. One of the medics sat down beside me on the floor and wrapped her arm around my shoulder. "Sweetheart, I know you are still really torn up about this, but I just have to ask you a question or two." I nodded my head. "How long after you saw them drink the alcohol did you call 911?" I took a breath and began, "I called 911 after they hit the floor. I didn't know what else to do. I should've tried to save them." I began crying

On April 24th 1992, I met a woman at a hospital in Los Angeles. The woman was sweet, loving, and smelt like Dior Dune perfume. Once I was cleared by the doctors, the woman took me to her apartment. When we arrived, I heard kids laughing as they splashed each other in the pool, and saw a group of older guys wearing bright red t-shirts with red shoe laces. I watched for a minute, absorbing everything in like a sponge.…

In both Homer's "Odyssey" and Margaret Atwood's "Siren Song", the Sirens are portrayed differently and similarly. Both authors utilize different point of views and tone. First of all, the point of view of the "Odyssey" is told by Odysseus, while the "Siren Song" is told from the perspective of the sirens. Odysseus is trying to prevent the destruction of his crew. For instance," I stopped the ears of my comrades one by one."…

    Siren Song Comparison

When first examining the poems Spinster and Siren Song, the two poems seem quite different. In Spinster the poem is discussing a woman who has decided that she should shut out all of the men in her life, because she feels no need for them. Siren Song focuses on a creature that is doing almost the opposite; she lives her life with the main purpose of finding men to lure into her grasp. Although the poems Spinster and Siren Song may appear quite different from one another when they are first examined based on their diverse plot lines, the poems actually reveal themes that are quite similar to each other. The protagonists of the two poems seem to have very different approaches in dealing with men that they encounter in their lives.…

The “ravishing” yet “fatal” cries of the ever mysterious Sirens are described by Margaret Atwood and Homer in strikingly conflicting ways. Homer’s description of the Sirens portrays them as mystical, yet fatal creatures, while Atwood insightfully depicts the same Sirens as bored yet deceitful human-like seductresses. Homer and Atwood make use of intense tones, powerful points of view, and bold diction to show the contrast in the two portrayals. With great intensity in their tones, Homer and Atwood make the stark contrast betwixt their portrayals of the Sirens evident, leaving few similarities afoot. For example, Homer sets a tone of urgency as Odysseus’ crew “rac[es] past” the Sirens and then proceeded, “fl[inging] themselves at the oars…

I walked up to the entrance of the evacuated home. The house could have been an enchanting two-story house; with its ivory framed windows, and front lawn. If it was not abandoned and lifeless, maybe this house would have been the dream house everyone fancied. But it's lifeless and boorish, just like the carrion of Timothy Woodsen. His body was no longer there, but the evidence was.…

It was an eerie autumn night, complete with howling winds and barren streets. Exceedingly few people had been audacious enough to walk the desolate streets of the Bronx, especially not at twilight. Not too far away, a family was in their small apartment. The young boy, Reginald, was huddled in bed listening to the angry footsteps and jaded voices that reverberated through their tiny home, scarring the wooden frame on which he lay. Reginald strained to hear his mother’s barely audible whisper, but could clearly discern the vicious, stinging sound of his father’s hand striking his mother, again, as he had so many times before.…

In Siren Song by Margaret Atwood, Imagery is used to connect the reader with deeper meanings of the poem. " To leap overboard in squadrons, even though they see beached skulls" (Stanza 2 Lines 4-5). The men are willing to follow orders to their death. The army trained and instilled in them a love for their people and their country, and in combat scenarios, disobedience could mean certain death.…
