The first game was a test of the Knights bravery. The green knight came to challenge the Knights. The Green Knight challenge them to a game of a Strike for a Strike. The rules were one of the Knights strike the Green Knight and in a year in a day the Green Knight strikes the Knight who struck him. King Arthur was the first to step up and challenge the Green Knight. Sir Gawain came in and stopped King Arthur. In the story Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Sir Gawain says “I beseech, before all here, that this melee may be mine, Would you grant me the grace, To be gone from this bench and stand by you there, If without discourtesy might quit this board, and if my liege lady misliked it not, I would come to your counsel before your court …show more content…
The rules of the game was that you must give back what you receive and vice versa. The lord of the castle and Sir Gawain made an agreement to exchange whatever they receive during the next three days In the story it says “Sir Gawain keeps his pledge for the first two days but fails to give the lord the magic green girdle that the lady gives him”(Wiggins pg 178). This lets us know that Sir Gawain could be trusted. He gave the king back what he received. Sir Gawain kept the the green girdle because he did not want to be killed. The lady told him the girdle would protect him from all danger. We cannot fault him for that because he was trying to save his. Sir Gawain still proved he could be trusted by giving the lord what he received the first two days. The games had an huge impact on Sir Gawain and how the rest of the story took
