In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain stumbles upon a castle run by a Lord Bertilak. When he arrives at this castle he is greeted by the lords men and invited in to feast, for it were Christmas Day. Gawain was asked by the lord for his word to swear to serve him. Gawain replied, " You may trust my tongue, for within these walls I am servant to your will." The lord went on explaining how Gawain had come to the castle, tired, weary, and hungry yet he joins the lord in his partying. He told Gawain to go and relax until mass the next day and then he could go eat and that his wife would take care of Gawain while he was away. The Lord stated that "at dawn I'll rise and ride to hunt with horse and hound." Gawain acknowledged the lord and bowed …show more content…
The left the castle and the hounds picked up a scent at the side of a swamp. The huntsmen followed the dogs until the zeroed in to what the believe was the area they were looking for. The encircled the area and made a ruckus. Suddenly the largest of wild boars they had ever seen ran from cover. They chased the boar with the dogs and the boat would stand at bay when the dogs would get close. Then it would try and attack the dogs, getting some of them by the cries that come from the dog. The boar was attacked and would escape and the hunters would give chase again and this went on for a while. Back at the castle the lords wife went straight to Gawain this time to wake him. The parted the curtains and made her welcome at once to Gawain. Like the hunters she surrounded him and started to ask why he would not accept the courteous offer from her. He was adamant on not giving in to the wife. He kept trying to talk her out of making him do wrong. Finally he is able to get her to leave with only a kiss again which in a way is still a slight loss for Gawain. The lord and his men trapped the boar again and the lord jumped off of his horse and with sword in hand faces the boar. The boar charges and the lord stabbed the boar in the neck killing it. The lord and his men went back to the castle and just as the night before they called everyone together and present the winnings. …show more content…
They went out and were lead on a long chase after a fox, their last animal to hunt. The fox was crafty and sly and was not easy to catch. While that chase was happening the wife arose from her sleep because the love she felt would not fade. She went to his room in a robe with fine trimmed furs on the inside. She was her neck and shoulders were naked from back to breast. She opened the window and talked in his ear, " Oh sir, how can you sleep when morning is so clear?" Gawain awoke and addressed the lady and she leaned I and kissed him. He stated, "I shall not succumb" to which she said he would be blamed. She then said that she could understand his honesty and thought that maybe he had a women of his own back home. He told her that there was no woman that waited for him and there wouldn't be one for a while. She asked him for a gift of some sort to remember him by such as a glove but Gawain denies. So instead she offers him gifts. She offered him a gold ring but he denied it. So she offered her girdle that she wore which was made of green silk and trimmed with gold. He once agin rejects her offer to which she explains that he denied the gift that most knights would pay a high price for due to its powers.she said that it held the powers to keep, whoever wore it robustly, safe from strike. Gawain was pressed to take the present for it could keep him safe in the green chapel and she asked him not to
