Sioux Falls Case Study

The passion for soccer in Sioux Falls can be improved if high school soccer games begin to be televised. Often times football, baseball, and basketball games are shown on local TV broadcasts. From personal experience, I have never seen a high school soccer game broadcasted on TV in Sioux Falls. This is a problem because other sports are getting more exposure and as explained above, more exposure leads to more popularity. The graph below in Figure 2 shows the popularity in football vs. soccer among youth athletes as pertained to which was preferred to watch on TV.

According to the graph in Figure 2, youth athletes who participated in football, baseball, and basketball all preferred watching football over soccer. The only group who preferred watching soccer over football was the group that participated in youth soccer. These numbers correlate with what sport these individuals play. This shows the

Men’s National team and the overall game of soccer. There is an American Outlaws chapter in Sioux Falls, which helps spread the awareness of soccer in the area. The South Dakota American Outlaws Facebook page states their mission is “To support the United States National Team through a unified and dedicated group of supporters to promote and gain support for the USMNT throughout South Dakota” (cite). This group is a great way to build the passion of soccer in Sioux Falls because they spread knowledge and support for the sport. Getting more people involved in this group will lead to more passion and knowledge for soccer in Sioux Falls. Soccer fans in the area should be informed about this group because if the group grows, then more and more people will know what soccer is really about. This will all in turn lead to the better of passion of soccer in Sioux Falls. As the face of soccer in Sioux Falls, DASC needs to begin to promote this group in order for it to
