Issues such as racism and immigration. She did a good job at making sense of what a single story actually was. She used good examples to argue the point. She really focuses on addressing the fact that not everything you hear about someone is known to be true. I liked when she gave the example about the time she spoke at a University about one of her novels, and one of the students mentioned that, “It was a shame that all Nigerian men were physical abusers like the father character in her novel.” She then goes on to mention after hearing that from the student that she had just read a novel called “American Psycho”, and from reading that novel it was such a shame that young Americans were serial murderers. When she said that I found it amusing, and I feel like she made a very good point by referencing that. I thought it was a good point because it contradicted what her student had said to her. I don’t think her student was expecting her to have such a quick comeback. Although it may have seemed harsh to say that to the student she says that she only said that out of irritation, and unlike that student she was knowledgeable of America. I took a lot from this segment because I sometimes find myself believing everything that I hear before I know anything about it or do any of my research. I thought this was a very good segment and I’m interested in more of Adichie’s
