Why are characters important to a story? Characters are important because they drive the story as a whole. Characters are usually the main focus in a story and contribute to the plot. The main character in Single Shard is a boy from Ch'ulp'o named Tree-ear.Tree-ear is a very important character who contributes to the plot because he is perserverant, clever, and likes to spy. Tree ear is perseverant in the story Single Shard. “The second vase, its fall cushioned however slightly by the sand, had broken into bigger pieces. The largest shard was the size of his palm. Tree-ear picked up this piece and swished it through the water to rinse of the sand...he would journey to Songdo and show the emissary the single shard”(129-130). This makes Tree-ear perserverant because everyone thought the vase was broken into a hundred pieces, yet he kept going. He continued his journey to Songdo. Another example that shows that Tree-ear is perseverant is “...Min’s voice was cross and he didn’t look up ’It has been nine days and …show more content…
On the other side of the stream not far from the path, two huge boulders stood. Tree-ear splashed across the stream and examined them. Between them was a little hollow. It was too small to sleep in, but Tree-ear liked the look of huge rocks.”(110-111). This is an example of Tree-ear being clever for the reason that he found a way to search for shelter, a place to stay the night. Another example of Tree-ear’s cleverness is “Tree-ear struck two flint stones together (11). A shower of sparks leapt to the pine needles. it took a few tries before a wisp of smoke curled up to signal the birth of a flame.” This is an example of Tree-ear being clever because he figured out how to make his own fire in the wilderness with nothing but two rocks. These are all examples of how Tree-ear is

The fact that the secondary characters push the plots and main characters developments forward often makes the secondary characters more important to the story than the main ones. Think “foils”. might even call for death of second character. The characters are the main section of any type of story, play or movie. The characters grow. They give the story a meaning. The Wizard of Oz gives amazing examples in both the play and the story to how the characters should grow and to fulfill the meaning. The play helps you understand how the characters are feeling more than the story because you can see the characters facial expression and emotions, while in the story you are described the emotions and expressions in words.…

The character in a story is the main foundation in any story, essay, or any other form of writing. These characters not only give the writing a purpose, but present the irony, symbols, and conflicts in the stories. Without the main character there would not be any sort of writing. The main character may also be dynamic, which means the change as the story goes on, or they may be flat, which meants that they don’t change. From the many stories we read in our class, I fell in love with the character Rochelle, from the story “The Bride” by author Christine Granados.…

Honestly, I can’t tell you for sure. The lines diving psychopathy, sociopathy and other Cluster B personality disorders are very blurred to say the least. Even more so because Mark is still under the age of 18 which is the age when you can start properly diagnosing someone with mental diseases. So this will be a very loose diagnosis. There is a certified test called the PCL-R (Psychopathy Checklist Revised) to help asses the presence of psychopathy in people.…

Often times the most important characters in a story are the ones who are hardly there at all. They often complement the cliche main cast of any film or book. For example, in in JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series, the main character’s parents were never alive throughout the entire series, and have very few scenes featuring them in action. However, their roles in the main character’s decisions.…

Another common trope in witch-wizard fantasy is, magic must always be present in some way. This means throughout the story there must be a magical source or somebody who has the power to produce magical powers. In my own novel “Hex Hall” there is magic found throughout the story since the main character is a witch, she casts spells whenever she pleases and her father is a warlock so she gets her magical side from him. In Harry Potter it is present considering they attend a school specifically for witchcraft and wizardry, every student who attends must be of the magical background. Another one in this sub-genre is having friends and allies.…
