Parenthood: Traditional Vs. Non-Traditional We hear many questions regarding single family homes and their children. Does a child need both parents? Do boys need a father figure around? Does a girl need to be raised by her mother? Does having both parents in the home the magic potion for successful upbringing of children? For many years now, growing up in a single parent family has been looked at as being different. To some degree, being raised in a one parent household is viewed by many as an impossible task. They should be more focused on what values are taught to these children as they become adults. Society believes that the only way for kids to gain full potential and social skills is to be raised by both parents. Often times, children raised in single parent households end up with more than one parent because many family members and friends help aid in raising that child. They must be able to make time to give an energetic amount of emotional time. Also taking the time out for extracurricular activities, it may seem impossible, but it can be done. Yes, single parents endure a lot on a daily basis, but they are the sole provider. Single parents have to work full time jobs to be able to afford and make things available for their children. It can be a case where a mother is financially benefitting the home and where the father is disabled and is not able to financially support the home like he once used to. Which means if the two ends up getting divorced, then someone is going to be left in the dirt trying to make sure their child gets whatever they want. Once one becomes a single parent, it’s very important to be sure to let your child know that everything will be okay and that they are loved no matter what.
