This assignment can relate to my practicum at the Boys & Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County because many of the adolescents I work with come from single parent households and face these challenges each day with food insecurity being the biggest issue.
As an intern at The Boys & Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County I have been able to teach the SMART Moves program. This program is the clubs Skills, Mastery, and Resistance Training prevention program. This program can help the youth learn about the immediate dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and how to avoid the threats along with teen pregnancy.
I have used the strengths-based approach to help build the adolescents resiliency and to make them belief that they can be successful without having to feel pressured into using alcohol, tobacco or other drugs. I focus on a approach to highlight each adolescents strengthens instead of focusing on their weakness and help them to show more positive behaviors by bragging on them when they do the right thing making sure the behavior doesn’t go unnoticed. Each participant had to attend at least 75% of the sessions. This data could help me understand and measure the differences of each participants outcome throughout the program by how many sessions they were able to attend.
Each student or member of the club that participated in the SMART Moves program was asked to complete a pre- and post test this test is designed to help measure the effectiveness of the program and the changes each individual experienced. The questions on the test focused on each person’s knowledge, awareness, attitudes, skills and motivation regarding unhealthy behaviors.
Each pre- or post test comes with an answer key and value points for each question that was answered correctly and they are entered into the Evaluation scoring form. The pre- test is given to students at the beginning of the program and the post is given at the end of the program to determine what each individual has
