In this photo it is easily identifiable that it is a photo graph of roughly about six eggs. However, the three eggs in the foreground differ from the three eggs in the background. To describe in further detail two out of the three eggs in the foreground share the trait of having a white shell. The other single remaining egg possesses a brown, or darker, shell. Only the eggs in the foreground contain faces. Two of the faces, one on each of the white shelled eggs, projects a face of anger. The single brown egg contains an unamused, irritated expression. The setting of the photograph as a whole seems to be in a container made specifically for eggs, as indicated by the individual slots. The photograph above clearly articulates an existing relationship

Are we ready for an America made one quarter of genetically abnormal persons? Yet, this is how America will be, if fertilized eggs are given legal personhood. Fertilized eggs are single celled embryos which are incapable of survival on their own. Granting them legal personhood will be against the interests of humanity. It will invariably politicize the matter, interfere with research that can potentially revolutionize healthcare, deprive men and women of the right to choose the fate of their sex cells, and drive up healthcare costs on a logarithmic scale.…

The egg drop project we did involved many physics principles. One of them was air resistance, which happened because the egg dropped and it accelerated, while the velocity increased. Then the resistance of the air to the egg box motion also increased, which means the upward force of air resistance balances the downward force of gravity, so the egg box dropped at a constant speed. We attached balloons to the box we made in order for the box to pass through the air while softly landing. We believe that by attaching the balloons it would have less air resistance so the box will fall quickly.…

Once the egg was decalcified, it felt very fragile and bouncy. When the egg didn’t have a shell anymore, it was kept from seeping out by the “plasma membrane” (egg white), which was congealed by the soaking in vinegar. When the nucleus of the egg became visible, it looked very cloudy. The substance that entered/left the egg in each situation was water, due to the state of the egg, by way of osmosis, in a way of trying to balance the inside and outside the “cell” (egg), this balance is essential to functioning at the preferred isotonic state. This lab could be improved by using 2 different eggs, as the data seemed inaccurate when placing a hypotonic egg into a solution of corn syrup made the egg hypertonic, because there wasn’t a proper start weight in the egg when placed in the second solution.…

The blue crabs are considered a big topic to be dealt with in the Chesapeake Bay on the East Coast. Blue crabs are considered a great deal in the Chesapeake Bay for food or produce near Maryland and Virginia, so when scientists discovered that the blue crab numbers have dropped significantly to the point where they can’t sustain themselves anymore, there are works in progress to help bring back the blue crabs before they go extinct. Some people and authors have written debates and arguments about how they feel about the blue crabs and what people should do to preserve them. One example in this specific argument is for people to do a moratorium, or a temporary ban on catching crabs. The argument that people should stop crabbing the Chesapeake…

The aged man hunches meaningfully over the smooth glassy table with a flour-crusted loaf of bread resting on the surface. The reflection of the table mimics the bread’s unmoving position. The freshly baked loaf of bread lies next to the firmly planted elbows of the elderly man. Next to the bread lies a razor-sharp knife with a wooden handle, and next to that, a half-empty seemingly charred bowl. A strong aroma from the soup sifts through the air as the old man inhales and exhales.…

The Egg and the Sperm implies that science has constructed a romance, based on stereotypical male and female roles. Martin’s stereotype implications suggest that, “female biological processes are less worthy than their male counterparts but also that women are less worthy.” (Martin 846) The sperm is so commonly portrayed as the superior reproductive organ, and the egg a degenerate and dislodging reproductive part. According to the essay, “the egg is portrayed as a damsel in distress, shielded only by her sacred garments; and the sperm as heroic warrior to the rescue.”…

In her academic article, “The Egg and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male-Female Roles”, Emily Martin, explains in great depth the consequences that personifying science will have on society. Martin describes the inequalities between men and women that are displayed in science textbooks. The imbalances are shown most often when describing the scientific explanation of conception. Martin analyzes numerous scientific works and identifies numerous differences between describing female and male natural bodily functions, including sperm production, menstruation, conception and many other natural occurrences. Martin uses several logical fallacies and the Aristotelian appeals to solidify her argument, which…

People often attempt to disguise themselves behind a mirage to convince others and themselves of a higher status in society. This persona eventually becomes so intertwined with their identity that the reality fades into the background. The Great Gatsby explores this relationship through the connection between a materialistic, self-serving society and its effect on Jay Gatsby’s pursuance of his dream. In The Great Gatsby, appearances do not reflect reality, demonstrating F. Scott Fitzgerald’s commentary on the importance of dissociating the falsified identity from the true self amongst a superficial society.…
