Simulation Laboratory Experience

One method of providing students the opportunity to try out a career is through participation in simulation exercises that require them to perform the day-to-day functions of a particular career. Simulation laboratory experiences may allow participants to identify how they feel about a career by allowing them to apply knowledge gained from lectures into simulated scenarios based on real-world situations they may experience on the job. It is well recognized that although faculty continue to rely on lecture as the primary method for presenting clinical information to nursing students (Brannan, White & Bezanson, 2008), experiential learning enhances student assimilation, synthesis (Dewey, 1963; Kolb, 1984), and the application of clinical concepts
