Simulation Lab Report

During our field trip to the simulation lab, I was very surprised as to what it looked like. I have always wondered what was behind those doors and I was very excited to know that I was going to find out. The first place we saw was the occupational therapy room which was set up just like a house. There, they can practice their skills that they learn in the classroom and apply them in a simulated setting. The simulation can help patients do day to day tasks such as sitting down and getting up from a couch or getting a cup of water at the sink. Next we saw the driving simulation machine that will help patients to drive again. This is used because it is much safer than practicing driving on the road. Patients that have injuries such as traumatic brain injury, recent surgery, or cognitive decline can all benefit from the driving simulator …show more content…
These dummies are used for nursing students to practice treating the patient and doing different treatments than they would at clinical. The adult dummies were able to cough and show they’re in pain and the babies were able to cry and make different noises. The most impressive dummy was the one that was able to sweat, drool, perspire, and you could feel its pulse in multiple different places. The simulation lab it super important for student to learn and experience different situations that are not offered to them in clinical. The director of Nursing Simulation & Clinical Skills at SHU said “The laboratories provide students the opportunity to learn and practice in a realistic and risk-free environment. These experiences offer invaluable opportunities to enrich and enhance learning as well as to increase student confidence” ("Sophisticated nursing simulation lab…", 2018).
