The difference between correlation and causation is that correlation is a statistical measurement that describes the direction and size of a relationship between two or more variables. It is an action or occurrence that correlates with another. For example smoking is correlated with drinking alcohol but doesn’t cause alcoholism. Causation describes that one event happens because of a different event or a cause and effect relationship. It is an action or occurrence that can cause another. For example smoking causes an increase in the development of lung cancer, or jumping off of a cliff directly causes great physical damage. Both correlation and causation are important in looking at different aspects of life. For

To determine causality one must establish the relationship between two or more things and to see how they co relate. In Illusory Causation in the Courtroom, published in Current Directions in Psychological Science, G. Daniel Lassiter explores illusory causation in terms of the role it plays in courtrooms. This is the possibility of the effect that camera perspective has on jurors’ judgements on the suspect’s guilt, whether it was a voluntary confession and sentence recommendations. The Death Penalty Information Center had documented cases in which death row inmates were released due to new evidence and in many cases, the cause of wrongful convictions can be traced back to the interrogation phase in which false confessions are extracted. Many experts believe that the solution to suspects being coerced into wrongful confessions are videotaping confessions.…

Another interesting fact is that it is common in covariations for it to be unclear which event causes the other. In some of these cases, the events change places or are both the cause and effect of each other as in the case of the positive correlation between income and stock…

I used to be a traditional artist, working in paint, sculpture, drawing. Then I realized my work wasn't seen in the way I had envisioned for it, so I then made the transition into photography. Because I felt I could create work that would allow the viewer the ability to envision themselves in the piece. Almost as if they were a part of the narrative. I'm creating work with symbolism, depth, and narrative in an effort to make my photography as artistically strong as a fine art painting.…

Correlation (or association) is when two different factors react similarly to one another because of a connecting variable, but are not occurring as a result of one another. Causation is when a change in one factor results in a corresponding change in another factor. An example of a positive correlation is ice skating and the avalanches. It would be weird if ice skating was a cause of avalanches. An actual cause of both of those things that link them is the cold weather.…

A truck driver suing the maker of the steering mechanism after crashing into a guardrail in which the defective steering wheel breaks the driver’s arm is considered a proximate cause. A proximate cause is a legal clause after establishing a link between the injured driver and the defective steering wheel (Melvin & Katz, 2014). The defect is a violation of a safety statute which points toward negligence on the manufacturer. The case would have to show that in any given circumstances, the same results would occur. Justia (2017) stated in an article that the defendant's conduct fell below standard care.…

Correlation isn't Causation To begin let us define correlation and causation. The correlation- Causation fallacy is the error of assuming that because one thing is associated with another, it must cause the other. The reason why its so important for people to understand the difference is because just because two things are a related to one another ( Correlation ) doesn't mean that one thing influence the outcome of the other( Causation ). For example, kids who get an allowance are more finically responsible. This is a great example of how Correlation isn't Causation it may occur that kids who do get allowance seem to be more responsible with their money but it doesn't have to mean that though they receive an allowance that that's…

There are many important philosophical concepts that we have learned this year. The one that I have chosen to focus on is the idea of niche construction and evolutionary developmental biology, and relate it to different forms of causation. The article that I used as my focus is “EvoDevo and Niche Construction: Building Bridges” by Laland, Odling-Smee, and Gilbert. In this article, both niche construction and evolutionary developmental biology are talked about. The main claim is that both of these concepts have much in common.…

On the other hand, others believe that life is something that can be written through the way they react towards circumstances, and how they take necessary steps if they want to achieve something or prove something in their lifetime. Given the two views, this paper will discuss how individuals are responsible for their behaviors and life circumstances.…

Four Causes: Aristotle maintains that there are four causes, material, formal, efficient and final, that are responsible for explaining how change occurs in the world. In order to explain how things change, Aristotle argues that all four of these causes must be applied to the change that occurs (56, 197b25). Therefore, Aristotle claims that these four causes explain how things come to be. The first cause, the material cause, is essentially what the thing is made out of, or the raw materials that constitute that thing (48, 194b25).…
