Ever since the 1980’s these games have become more realistic, and as violent as can be. If you play lots of role play games very often, it can sort of wire your brain, or put you in a habit of constantly thinking or acting in more of a violent manner. “Playing the games can and does stir hostile urges and mildly aggressive behavior in the short term...youngsters who develop a gaming habit can become slightly more aggressive”(Shooting in the Dark, page 1). This shows that there are negative effects to playing role play games, and whether it’s short term or long term, it still causes violence. In fact, it's the opposite. Violence is behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. This is basically the definition of role play games. Not only can this be caused by role play games including simulated violence, this is what role play games are. Children should not be aloud to play any types of role play games with simulated violence, because it teaches them violence, and makes it a habit for them to act more aggressively, and disrespectfully after playing. Think, what if children were never introduced to these games? Would there be less violence in the world today? Well the answer is, possibly, but it wouldn’t just make the world we live in perfect. Kids who play these games growing up tend to develop disrespectful, aggressive, and wild habits. If there was no simulated violence teaching kids that violence is the right path to take, there most likely wouldn’t be as much violence altogether. Now, you probably can’t just make all the videogames in the world disappear, but you can make a smaller change. Don’t allow your own children to play these games, guide them away from simulated violence. In schools, don’t allow violent games, or create other games/things that keep children entertained.
