In her essay From The Second Sex she goes through history and uses many examples to show the ways in which women have been subjected to injustices. She examines the reasons for these injustices as well. The main goal of her essay is to get the point across that while women have made some strides to become more equal with men, the fight is not over, and women need to stand up and take action. She understood that in order to be seen as equal to men, women needed to create new identities that made it so that they were not seen as weak and unable to do the same work as men. In every society there is a sort of caste system that places certain individuals above others, usually because of wealth and social status. This is very much how the relationship between men and women economically is. “Her wages in most jobs are lower than those of men; her tasks are less specialized…and for equal work she does not get equal pay.” Men are seen as higher up and more capable that women, so for this reason they are given better jobs and more opportunities that women. Even when women are able to climb the social ladder and acquire the same job as a man, they are not given the same pay. This is a great injustice. A women who is just as capable as a man is paid less merely because of the fact that she is a different sex. Men are given better economic opportunities which makes it almost impossible for women to gain the respect that they deserve in the business world. “Modern feminism should be far more concerned about the lives of people who did not go to university, who are working long hours in low-paid jobs, doing shift work or struggling to hold down a job, in forced marriages or living in domestic environments which are hostile” (Bennett). Today women deal with a whole new set of problems from what they experienced in the path. They are being forced to work at jobs where they are paid less than men because that is the only way
