In celebration of the 2016 Summer Olympics, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I nominate the ten-time Olympic gold medalist, Simone Biles as Outlier of the Year due to some by-chance opportunities and circumstances. At just 19 years old, Biles has become the most decorated women’s gymnast in the United States. She most likely would not have acquired these honors, had she not attended one school field trip to a gymnastics center, Biles may have never found her calling to gymnastics. She probably would have never been as successful as she is today. When Biles was young, she faced hardships at home.
