Simon The Magician In Act 8

Improved Essays
Resentment comes from a belief that somebody, often God, is being unfair or not giving what is due. Peter recognized this in Simon the Magician in Acts 8. Simon needed the ability that Peter and John wielded and was willing to pay to acquire it. However, Peter saw resentment behind Simon's request. Today people tend to do the same thing. It is easy to resent God after we see Him blessing others while others are suffering.
If people feed into that long enough, it will result in a resentful perspective. People begin to visualize everything as a hardship, even the blessings that God allow them to have. Eventually, it will get to a point were individuals will not be able to see God working in their lives. The Bible tells believers to reject

Anger may be a natural response physiologically; however left unbridled it will cause some a lot of problems. It will blind individuals to the part they played in the whole situations. It will eliminate all compassion and understanding of others. Even if you feel that you have the right to be angry, one must not let it dominate your response or beliefs. Believers must take every thought captive and begin to submitting to God, so that He will push us to forgive others and avoid resentment. God will heal the pain of resentment if you allow Him to.
Envy
What ever happened to the times when individuals were really happy for others? What about those days when people didn’t want what somebody else had? Oh, I’m sorry! Those days never happened. Jealousy is one of the emotions that have been here since the beginning of our time. A great example is when you think about the relationship of Cain and Abel. When you read the examples of envy in the Bible, it shows nothing but negative emotion.
People envy one another for multiple reasons. However the cause of envy itself is usually consistent. It comes from the heart. It was Jesus who said, “It's not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth” (Matt. 15:11). Solomon warned many in Proverbs by saying, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Prov. 4:23

Jealousy comes when one's focus is taken off God and put upon the world. Hebrews 13:4 states “but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” God's Word also states in I Corinthians 3:17 “if any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy.” The purity of mankind should be maintained, therefore the jealous husband was to bring her before the priest who would carry out all the law. Devils love the destruction of relations between a man and his wife.…

On the surface, envy seems to be one of the deadly vices that many believe is very clear cut. Julie Barnhill states in her article ‘The Comparison Trap’, “every day, everywhere, from every age bracket, and even despite our faith in Jesus Christ, we size each other up, comparing supposed weaknesses and trying to make ourselves feel better by ignoring or brushing off one another” (Barnhill, 2004). When looking at envy this way it seems that this vice is a superficial, unimportant part of life that we just need to deal with. A survey conducted in 2008-2009 asked respondents to rate what they believed to be the deadliest sin to be and envy was rated last with 0% by all respondents, male and female (Capps & Haupt, 2011). Rebecca DeYoung states…

“Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within everybody's power and is not easy. ”(Aristotle). Anger, is normal, however, it is the cause of a notable amount of negative actions in society, as shown by Jack Merridew in the Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris the article “Columbine High School Shooting”. Anger can gradually cause people to change and completely shift into totally different characters and perform actions that normally would not be carried out by this person. Anger starts out as a small emotion that doesn’t have an extreme effect on people at first.…

The actions may be caused differences in how they were raised by their parents, or it may be that they have a sense of entitlement because things have been freely afforded to them by government agencies. Older generations hold their perceptions of the Generation Y age group and their expectation of unearned “rights”. These factors will be analyzed so that the speculation of root causes can be identified.…

In most cases there was sufficient reason to be angry, especially when the problems are avoidable but inescapable when the environment is the main factor that situations happen. For example, the narrator says” These boys, now, were living as we'd been living then, they were growing up with a rush and their heads bumped abruptly against the low ceiling of their actual possibilities. They were filled with rage” (Oxford University Press 2013). Living in an impoverish neighborhood where it’s a dog eat dog world, nobody can be trusted; everybody is full of pain and resentment. Moreover, the narrator is told a story by his mother how their uncle who had been killed by some white teenager and left for dead, how it plagued their father up until his death.…

Jealousy is just another part of everyday life. As shown in Bobbie Ann Mason 's "Being Country", the story just shows that it 's normal to be envious of others and just look at positive things in their lives while ignoring the negative things. For example, when Mason 's family was having dinner, instead of looking at it like a feast because of the plentiful food her family had. Mason looked at it as "fuel for work". Instead of always looking at the positive side, we as humans like to generate an unreasonable conclusion from what 's bad in our lives to what 's good in someone else 's.…

Scholars have widely agreed that the Gospel of Luke has a special focus on the concern for the poor. This concern for the poor and marginalized first becomes obvious in the account of Jesus’ birth. In the Gospel of Matthew (2:1-12), it is the Magi, wealthy men from a distant country that come to worship Jesus, while Luke tells readers about shepherds- lowly men working in the fields coming to see the baby Jesus. Also, Luke has women, Elizabeth and Mary who as the focal point of the infancy narrative, while Matthew uses two men, Joseph and Herod the Great. The Gospel shows God being immensely concerned for those who were considered poor, and as a result was marginalized.…
