Simon Peter, the impulsive yet sensible disciple of God. Outspoken and ardent, one of Jesus’ closest friends, and above all one of the first “pillar’s” of the church. Though he had his flaws, because of God’s amazing abilities, Simon Peter ended up molding into a leader and someone the Christians could depend on. God set Peter’s life in place; through this Peter became more than just generic fisherman, but he became a foundation of the ever growing church.
Peter was born just Simon, son of Jonah, in approximately 1 B.C, in the Galilean town of Bethsaida. 6 years later in 7 B.C his younger brother Andrew was born, also in the town of Bethsaida. Before Cornelius’ attendees had arrived at Joppa, Peter had a vision. It was of a large white sheet, coming down upon all 4 corners of the Earth, containing every animal within it. God told Peter to get up and eat one of them, however Peter was indifferent to eating them, for he had never eaten anything impure or unclean. This is when God reminded Peter that nothing of God’s creation is impure or dirty. So when Peter finally got to Cornelius’ house in Joppa, he preached that even though Cornelius and his relatives were all Gentiles, he would not discriminate against them, God accepts all and the Good News deserves to be heard by all.
A year or two later, Herod had gained popularity with the Jews for killing and unfairly acting against followers of Jesus Christ, so with his newfound clout he put Peter in prison. That same day a light shone through the prison bars, it was an angel. The angel free Peter from his chains and told him to get up so they could escape. Peter praised God for his grace and proceeded to go to Mary, mother of John/Mark’s house to lay
