In “Lord of the Flies’’ Simon says things about “Mankind’s essential illness”. I think what he means by this is humanity’s evil side, and the evil that we humans are capable of, such as letting the fire out to kill something. Simon knows that their “civilization” is crumbling, no one is following the rules anymore, and Jack is steadily becoming more and more bloodthirsty and violent. Everyone is constantly fighting and harassing each other and nothing is getting done. The boys would rather go hunt and spill blood than focus on rules and organization and cooperation.
