Simon Birch Eulogy
Hello everyone. Welcome to Simon Birch’s funeral, I’m Joe Wentworth. I was Simon’s best friend, as he was mine as well. Today I will present you a few stories from Simon’s journey, that I had the pleasure of sharing with him. Simon was always very mischievous, and he definitely proved that at the town Christmas pageant. Simon was forced into being baby Jesus, due to he was the only one who could fit in the bassinet. Well, Marjorie was mother Mary, and seeing as Simon was basically in love with her, he was already a nervous wreck. So at the pageant, we were all performing on stage. We were sitting eating ice cream outside while we tried to figure out who it could be. Then Mr. Baker came along. Mr. Baker came and talked to us and he said how my mom was a “special lady” so I assumed right then that it had to be Mr. Baker. So with the help of Simon, we stayed after school for swim tryouts so we could sneak into Mr. Bakers office to try to find the baseball that hit my mom. So after tryouts we snuck down the hallway and ran up to Mr. Bakers office. The door was obviously locked, so Simon reached his arm through the mail slot and unlocked the door. And of course he got his arm stuck in the door. So I opened the big cabinet full of Mr. Baker’s sports equipment and as everything tumbles out of the cabinet, I see a baseball. I got so excited, as I was sure it was the one that hit my mother. I reached for the ball and brought it down to me. I turned the baseball over to check if it was the same ball and I grew furious, or as Simon told the police officer after we got caught, I “went psycho.”. So as I discovered that it was not the same ball, and that Mr. Baker was not my dad, I did indeed go psycho. I threw the baseball at the window, and as I watched it shatter I screamed. So as we were sitting with the police officer, that was when we were told we would have to go on the retreat. I tried so hard to get Simon out of trouble, but the officer wouldn’t let him go so he got in just as much trouble as I did. I felt so bad for him, especially because it was all my fault that we got in trouble in the first
