Many people believe that when someone risks their life, they become a Christ figure. A Christ figure is someone who resembles the biblical Jesus Christ or any other biblical figures. While reading Lord of the Flies, many readers have realized that Simon is the Christ figure. Based on Simon’s name and nature, how he behaves towards the other boys, and what happens when he dies, it is clear that Simon is the Christ figure in this book. To begin with, Simon’s name and his nature are both very notable ways of showing readers that he is the Christ figure. Simon’s name alone is a massive giveaway that he is a Christ figure. The name Simon also happens to be one of the twelve apostles in the bible, which is ironic. Also, Simon is seen as crazy …show more content…
In one scene, Ralph is sitting alone, thinking to himself. Just by observing Ralph, Simon knows exactly what he is thinking, which is that they will never be rescued. Simon reassures Ralph that he will get off the island. “You’ll get back all right. I think so, anyway.” (Golding 111) This is yet another example of Simon being the Christ figure and knowing exactly what to say to comfort Ralph. Just as Ralph was losing hope, Simon helped him regain it. Finally, Simon’s death is a colossal way of showing readers that he is a Christ figure. To begin with, the way Simon dies is almost identical to the way Jesus dies. They both die in an attempt to save others. Jesus dies by believing that he is the son of God. Simon dies trying to warn the others that the beast is not actually real, and that it is only them. However, in Simon’s attempt to save others, he dies. Unfortunately, Simon ran into the circle of savages at the wrong time. After the savages kill Simon, his body washes away. Nature gives him a halo- glowing plankton wrap around his head, in the shape of a halo. The sea is described as peaceful as Simon is swept out. Golding explains how Simon’s hair became bright. Many readers interpret this as Simon being risen into

All Simon did was good, the novel never showed Simon as evil. “Simon found for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless outstretched hands.” (56). Furthermore, Simon is regarded with some suspicion among the group because he often disappears without anyone knowing where he is. He has a secret hiding spot from which he spies on the other boys. Specifically, he watches Jack and the hunters kill and behead a pig. The text states, “All at once they [the hunters] were running away… toward the open beach. Simon stayed where he was, a small brown image, concealed by the leaves,” (137).…

Right Leg Bravery is shown within Simon when he trekked up the mountain by himself, despite the supposed sighting of the beast from the other boys. “Like an old man, through Simon’s “stagger” shown by his “glum determination” (Golding 146). Because “the beast was harmless”, it does not possess any physical threats since it’s a dead body, yet “horrible” in a way that it invoked fear into the group of boys (147). On the other hand, the “usual brightness from [Simon’s] eye” is gone which could represent how the good nature of the boys is being overpowered by their own inner beast (146). Not being wavered by fear, unlike the others, Simon overcomes it; therefore he understood the impact of their fear of the beast on them.…

Simon and Rue are both very mysterious characters in their stories, and sadly they both meet a similar fate, and this fate has its similarities and differences. The first similarity between Simon’s death and Rue’s death is how following their death, their body is treated as angelic. This happens in Lord of the Flies when Simon’s body floats out to sea and is said to be surrounded by silver. This is similar to Rue’s body, when Katniss puts white flowers over it, after she has been killed. The second…

The second reason on how Simon and I are very alike is because we are both sacrificial. " Simon sitting between the twins and Piggy, wiped his mouth and shoved his piece of meat over the rocks to Piggy, who grabbed it" (Golding 74). In this quote Simon is sacrificing his food in order to feed Piggy, who wasn’t given a piece of meat because he was not like by Jack, the one who was able to get the meat. This is one example of how Simon was sacrificial. Similar to me one day I had bought a box of donuts because I was really craving them, and when I left the store I saw a homeless man at the corner.…

Simon’s vulnerability is shown in this extract, when the beast points out that Simon is all alone, “There isn’t anyone to help you. Only me. And I’m the Beast.” Since he is alone, with the beast, no one can help him, but also because this is a figment of his imagination, so no one else can see the beast apart from Simon. “Only me” is used as a minor sentence and it seems to be implying that he is the only one who can help him.…
