Simmons World Challenge Reflection Danielle Morency I really enjoyed my experience here in Simmons World Challenge (SWC). Although it had its difficulties, SWC has been an incredibly positive experience for me. I have discovered many new aspects about myself and how I work in teams, as well as uncovered my passion for working in teams. It wasn’t perfect, but SWC was a fantastic way to start my new year. What I thought was most invaluable to my experience was the faculty and TA role in SWC. Unlike in other classes and programs, SWC allowed my team to discover what mattered to us and what we wanted to work on. Nevertheless, the guidance received from faculty and TA was equally invaluable. I appreciate the confidence you put in us to come up with our own ideas, problems, and solutions. Another thing I thought was valuable was the check ins. Although I detest getting up before 9:30am, if we didn’t have check ins, I know that I would have slept in a wasted that morning time. I have learned many things through SWC. In addition to research …show more content…
It triggers so many happy memories made with my team and with the other students, that it's hard to narrow it down. I think the most fun moment with my team was when we were struggling understanding one graph because the percents did not add up to 100. As Shelby and I discussed what we thought the graph meant for over an hour, Victoria was searching for other studies and graphs to replace the one we didn’t understand. Victoria started to read off 5 things that one study thought to lead to civic engagement. The first 4 all seemed relevant, but the 5 reason started with the word “Meerkat”. After hours of trying to understand the graph, we were all going a little crazy, but the word meerkat pushed us over the edge. We erupted with laughter. That is my happiest memory from SWC. It was so fun to work with Shelby and Victoria, and if anything sums up our team, it is that

Growing up going to public school in Texas there is one thing every child fears more than any potential monsters in their closets. The State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness or STAAR test is every kids worst nightmare. The STAAR test is three days of state testing that you seem to prepare for the entire year. In the past few years, I’ve volunteered with a variety of organizations from National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Key Club. I have also co-founded a Community Outreach Club at high school. Through the Church I’ve assisted with Vacation Bible School and middle school retreats. One of my favorite memories came from volunteering for the first time with National Spanish Honor Society. Choosing to participate in this program was not a difficult decision, since I knew I wanted to continue practicing my Spanish and volunteer in the community at the same time.…

The most memorable unit from my educational experience occurred in my twelfth grade English class. The unit was a comparative reading about Beowulf and Gilgamesh, which entailed several discussion based lectures and a final paper comparing the archetypes of heroes and characters. For me, this unit was so interesting as we discussed what made a hero and the hero’s journey, during this time I was writing my own book. I connected with this lesson because of my experiences outside school; with this said, a friend of mine who was in the class with me recalls the unit as well. Though, our opinions of it differ.…

Part I: Describe a “key moment” in your educational experience as a student that impacted you significantly in your life. An incident that impacted me significantly occurred when I was in the fifth grade. I was always a high achiever and an “A” student. The school I attended only had one music teacher who taught every grade. Since I had always received an “A” in music class I assumed I had a reasonable singing voice.…

The day I came to Job Corps, I remember leaving my house while my whole family was crying because I was leaving. The reason why they were crying is because I had never gone away from home before. Even though they were sad, at the same time they were happy because I was moving on with my life to better myself. It was hard for my dad to let me go because I am the oldest daughter and I have never separated from my dad. My little sister and my brother were crying too.…

This was the year that allowed to discover that although I wanted to pull my hair out maybe a good 100 times, my class taught me that there is no better thing in life than making others happy and having the ability to surround yourself with those smiles. I realized that even by the smallest role, I can make a difference, and I knew that I wanted to do that for the rest of my life. This experience shaped out what I wanted out of life--…

At Xavier University we believe in the “All for One and One for All” philosophy; showing that camaraderie and equality among all are still possible. One way Xavier lives up to its support for students is through the one-year long Smooth Transition mentoring program. I served as a smooth transition mentor to three incoming first-year students during the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to ensure that they have a successful first year at Xavier, I informed them about the resources Xavier University provides, including the writing center, mathematics lab, tutoring services, Ohio link, and much more. I also advised them to make good decisions and form relationships with people who would motivate them to succeed.…

An experience to me is something that is unforgettable, that one thing that means a little extra to you and something that will have a lasting effect on you. I travel in reverse to the little girl standing in the mirror and daydreaming of one day becoming not only an amazing basketball player, but a great person in general as well. I watched and mimicked Allen Iverson on the tv to the best of my abilities as my brother did, then I grew. It all started for me at a young age and I began using my talents right from the get go. I pursued a new journey in ninth grade to better myself as an individual, and a basketball player.…

The Power of Collaboration “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is process, but working together is success” (Henry Ford, Brainy Quotes). Throughout the first couple weeks of college, I expected to figure out everything out on my own without help from anyone else. However as it may be the case in some circumstances, I can surely tell you that classes like English 100Y definitely does not hinder the concept of teamwork or collaboration. Throughout the semester we have been exposed to a variety of group based activities and challenges. These collaborative assignments help benefit the students with the capability to attack challenges in the future whether it be in another class or life itself.…

Senior Year My greatest memory so far in my eighteen years of being on this earth is without a doubt my senior year of high school. It was absolutely unforgettable. My senior year as a whole (which was just last year) was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life and the happiest I have ever been. When I was a chubby little freshman with glasses I thought to myself that high school would be one of the longest time periods of my life and that four years would feel like forty years. But man was I wrong, high school went by in the blink of an eye.…
