“Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.” – George Orwell (www.brainyquote.com) In German history, while Adolf Hitler was in charge, there were many events that took place that were not released to the public. The secret mass murders and humans starving to death all because of their race. This news was not to the public for a very long time. In the novel, Animal Farm, many comparable situations took place in their form of government. In contrast to Animal Farm’s government, luckily the United States has a democracy. However, Animal Farm is a dictatorship which is ran by, “Comrade Napoleon, a distinguished dictator,” (Page 79). The United States government is a democracy, which is ran by the President. In Animal Farm’s government, one person has complete and utter control over the entire farm. In the United States, our democracy is ran by the President of the United States and the people of America have input on how their government is ran. This leads to the second comparison of the two governments, rules. Each type of government usually has their own set of rules or commandments that everyone is supposed to follow. In Animal Farm the pigs set up seven commandments to help keep the power on the farm evenly distributed. The animals followed the rules without any problem. As time went on and they became accustomed to the changes, the pigs started to

Violence and Corruption of Leaders “They had come to a time when no one dared speak his mind, when fierce, growling dogs roamed everywhere, and when you had to watch your comrades torn to pieces after confessing to shocking crimes” (Orwell 87) This is the scene for George Orwell’s Animal Farm, where pigs take over governmental rule after driving out the tyrannical Mr. Jones. Although the new government was designed from ideas of equality, corruption amongst the pigs leads to a reign of terror equal to or worse than that of Mr. Jones. Orwell’s intention in writing Animal Farm was to indirectly critique the ruling of the newly formed Soviet Union, therefore many characters in the novel are related to prominent leaders after the Russian…

The Seven Commandments In the novel Animal Farm, George Orwell takes the reader on a journey from a dictatorship to a democracy and back to a dictatorship. It’s an illustration of how greed and power can destroy a society. It is a story of how injustice can spark a revolution and how corruption can undermine a democracy. In the beginning of the novel, the Animal Farm is controlled by a greedy farmer, “Mr. Jones”, who treats the animals poorly. The animals, inspired by the vision of a pig named “Old Major”, run the farmer away from the farm and take it over.…

Animal Farm is like a satire as in the book, George Orwell talks and mocks the theme of power of how absolute power corrupts absolute. Orwell substitutes animals for humans, so the major concepts of communism can be played out on the farm. Communism is meant to be a classless society which is similar to Animalism in Animal Farm as all animals are equal. However he mocks the Russian Revolution which like in Animal farm is the Revolution that results in new leaders, but the same kind of tyrants. Snowball and Napoleon battling for control of the farm, as they both want to be the leader because they know that the leader has the most privileges.…

    1. Leadership in Animal farm is presented as a dictatorship which is proven to be cyclic. For instance “there was only one candidate, Napoleon who was elected unanimously” and “he carried a whip”. This implies that leadership is recognized to be cyclical as the animals are back where they started with dictators with ‘whips in their hands’. Yet, the only dissimilarity is that they have a different ruler.…

The main mistakes the animals kept repeating after the revolution was submitting to the pigs’ rule and dictatorship showing how submissiveness leads to consequences when not acted upon quickly enough. None of the animals took an early stand at the injustice they were receiving at the hands of Napoleon and his allies. They all brushed off any doubts they had about believing others and the massive tweaks of the seven commandments. For example, Muriel and Benjamin were able to read and they still ignored the fact that the seven commandments were different, blaming their “faulty memory”. The following quote supports: “None of the animals could form any idea as to what this meant, except old Benjamin, who nodded his muzzle with a knowing air ,…

If a person has to choose between living in a society where they have an equal say in the decisions made about their lives and have freedoms to act as they please, versus a society where a leader has complete control over everyone’s actions and freedoms are taken away from the people, it seems obvious which choice would be made. However, oftentimes the latter is apparent. Dangerous totalitarian societies are evident in the novels 1984, Animal Farm, and The Hunger Games. 1984, written by George Orwell, is a novel revolving around a man named Winston who struggles in Oceania, a place where the Party scrutinizes human actions and has total control over its people. Animal Farm, another George Orwell novel, is an allegory to the events of the Russian Revolution where pig leaders rebel against the human owner of a farm.…

It sounds like this Animal Farm republic is looking a lot more like a dictatorship. It seems that Napoleon has brainwashed the farm with his power. All in all, the more power handed around the more the person or animal, in this case, is corrupted in their own…
