Similarities Between Theseus And The Menotaur

Thousands of years ago the idea of Greek Myths became legitimate and the few literate people began documenting the stories they heard. Theseus and the Menotaur was one of them. Hundreds and hundreds of years later in 2012, “The Hunger Games” came out in theatres. Despite the age difference, the two stories might have more in common than you think. Even though the stories are from compete different origins with a slightly different story plot, both of the main characters have traits in common. Katniss, the main character of “The Hunger Games”, and Theseus, the main character of Theseus and the Menotaur, volunteered to fight in the place of another. Katniss and Theseus both find a way to survive the challenge they faced. But Theseus was way more cruel than Katniss ever was. Not only was he cruel but also self absorbed. He only volunteered to fight for glory rather than volunteering to help others like Katniss. …show more content…
In “The Hunger Games” the people kill people, while in Theseus and the Menotaur the beast kills the people. In “The Hunger Games” it’s optional to even have the event while in Theseus’ Kingdom they have to sacrifice to keep peace and stay safe. But in both situations the government randomly chooses random participants. Theseus and the Menotaur and “the Hunger games” were written by 2 complete different authors. But some parts of the plot and story are similar, that is because there is a reoccurring theme in most stories. I believe themes reappear through history because often times stories need a good “hook.” Most stories use a dramatic hook with action or a problem. Like a hero becoming a better person by going through a rough time. In conclusion both supporting and main characters have things in common. So does the actual plot. I guess history does slightly repeat itself sometimes even if it's just in creative myths and
