As the research goes on and on Julia finds a trail of secrets about Sarah that links to her and her family. Throughout the whole story, incidents of trust flow. At the beginning when the parisian policeman showed up at Sarah’s door, Sarah and her brother fight over whether he should or shouldn't go into the cabinet, but then Sarah, who desperately was trying to help him, agrees and the following conversation is made “ “Are you afraid in there?” she said softly… “No,” he said. “I’m not afraid. You lock me in. They won’t get me.” (Rosnay 8-9).” This quote resembles the huge amount of trust her brother had for her, he trusted her with his own life to be locked in that cabinet not knowing when she would come back or if she will come back. Lily hasn’t lived in a very trusting environment her whole life but, when she decides to take her life into her own hands, she not only trusts her instincts she trusts other people she newly meets. On their journey to Tiburon, Lily and Rosaleen were walking on the highway hoping to find a ride when this incident occurred,” A coloured man driving a beat-up chevy truck full of cantaloupes had mercy on us… “I can drop you three miles from Tiburon.” (Kidd 50).” Now the fact that they needed the ride and had no choice is one of the factors they agreed to go with him but, if he didn’t look trustworthy Lily and Rosaleen wouldn’t have taken the ride.They trusted this complete stranger on the road to drop them at their destination and not harm them in any way.
