Intro: The Roman Republic mostly met the common good because they did amazing in most purposes of government but there is one purpose of government where it started off bad but got much better overtime. The 5 Purposes of Government are, Provide Public Service, Protect Rights, Promote Rule of Law, Prepare for a Common Defense, and Support the Economic System.

Before the Plebeians got a say in the government and had the idea to write down the laws the Patricians would constantly beat the Plebeians for breaking laws but the Plebeians were never told the laws and the weren't written down so a Patrician might make up a fake law or change around a law just so that he could beat up the Plebeian. If a Patrician was accused of a crime by a Plebeian it wouldn't matter because the Patricians ruled the court system anyways. They didn't treat slaves as bad as other civilizations. The slaves might get a salary if he worked really hard so that one day he could pay himself in to freedom. Even if the slave just worked hard for their master they would get freed depending on who they served. It was bad for the women because they were in complete control by their husband, they were like slaves but treated even more poorly. Their role in society was to take care of children and her husband’s house. All property of a woman was given to her husband when she was married. Women were not allowed to hold vote or hold political office even though they were citizens. Any legal business was handled by a male, usually the woman’s father or husband. The coins had small holes in them which you would use to ring in to your belt. They had these holes in them because they didn't have pockets back then which is sort of crazy because the Romans were very advanced for their time. While the Roman army grew the Senators had the idea to make the conquered people that were beaten in war the option to either die or start paying taxes for Rome and eventually become a Roman citizen. Even after the Plebeians got a say in the government they still were soldiers, farmers, and merchants of Rome. This was a good idea because since 95 percent of Rome were Plebeians they had a lot of resources from all the farmers and merchants.
In conclusion, the overall grade of the Roman Republic is an A. They got an A in most of the Purposes of Government. But in Rule of Law and Protect Rights they started off really slow but got better over time. The grade would have been higher after the Plebeians got rights but the Women were still treated worse than the slaves. Overall the grade is an
