The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner are two best-selling novels that both embrace the latest craze of young adult dystopian literature. Both novels encompass the genre of science fiction and accentuate the main theme of sacrifice, although the authors portray the themes in different ways. In addition, the main character in the Hunger Games, Katniss and the main character in The Maze Runner, Thomas are both impelled to fight for their lives in artificial worlds which serves as the main conflict in both novels. However, the Hunger Games and The Maze Runner bare conspicuous differences such as the Hunger Games being set in a post-civil war and The Maze Runner being set in post-apocalyptic war.
