The lack of importance placed in truth, the uprise of paranoia, and discrimination are all the human characteristics that are seen in The Crucible and the Holocaust.
The importance of truth was not kept in mind during both times. Hitler’s tendency to brainwash impacted the lives of many people. An article stated, “Under this doctrine, the Nazis were able to establish a policy first of systematic discrimination, then harsh mistreatment, and finally the murder of a large majority of Europe's Jewish population,”(Heilke). The Nazi party was determined to make everyone in Germany, and other parts of Europe, believe that Jews were a threat to society. Their method to this was to brainwash everyone. The Nazis led people to believe that Jews were inferior to everyone else in Europe. (Heilke). They advocated this policy by using propaganda. Posters were posted all around Germany to raise awareness about “getting rid of the Jews”. In the Holocaust, the Jews were very much targeted by the Nazis. An article stated, “Few realized that Hitler did not care if Germany won the war; his mission was the extermination of Jews,” (“Holocaust”). Hitler focused on killing Jews because of their beliefs and race. The Holocaust was generally focused on getting rid of the Jews. This is a perfect example of racism and discrimination. The Nazis believed they were on a high level during this time and treated the Jews terribly. For example, they murdered them and placed them in concentration camps. They also made the Jews go through hard labor. A minor character, Tituba, from the The Crucible relates to the Holocaust in this way. Hale stated, “ You have sent your spirit out upon this child, have you not? Are you gathering souls for the Devil? Abigail: She sends her spirit on me in church; she makes me laugh at prayer! Parris: She have often laughed at prayer! Abigail: She comes to me every night to go and drink blood!” (Miller, 1242). Abigail falsely accused Tituba because she knew that everyone would believe her, since Tituba was a slave. This is an example of discrimination because Tituba was falsely accused and easily believed because of her race. She was inferior to the white people of Salem. If Tituba was white, the people of Salem would not believe Abigail so easily. Throughout the Holocaust, the Jewish people were treated
