We all have idols, people we look up to. For some, it may be a favorite player, a teacher, parents, or a character from a book. Someone I aspire to be like would be the character Alex from The Dead and The Gone, by Susan Pfeffer. In The Dead and The Gone, the world is thrown into chaos when the Moon moves closer to earth, bringing apocalyptic consequences like volcanoes, earthquakes, and global catastrophe. Alex, who lives in New York City, is told to watch over his sisters, Bri and Julie until his parents return home, which they never do. Alex is forced to learn how to care for his sisters despite the conditions and hardships he faces. I aspire to be like Alex because he is caring, protective, and smart.
