This is the Porter scene and with the possibility of getting caught Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are becoming very paranoid. The paranoia causes them to become suspicious towards anyone and everyone.
Shakespeare includes situational irony in this scene by introducing someone knocking on the door when Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are covered in blood and trying to cover their tracks. The audience expects the knocking to be someone that knows about the murder coming to get them but in reality it’s just Macduff. The arrival of Macduff plants suspicion in the audience's mind about whether or not he know’s about the murder. This is kind of ironic also because Macduff was the one that had the initial suspicion that Macbeth was the killer.
The larger theme of Macbeth and Genesis 3 is that greed can ruin your life, especially when you have everything that you already need. Adam and Eve’s lives were completely changed when they disobeyed God and Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s lives were
