Beowulf vs. The 13th Warrior The 13th Warrior and Beowulf have many similarities and differences. Beowulf was the framework for the plot of The 13th Warrior. The stories have more differences than they do similarities. Beowulf was written by an anonymous Anglo-Saxon poet and The 13th Warrior was written by Michael Crichton. Instead of doing a replication of Beowulf, Crichton used his imagination to fabricate a new story.
A similarity between the two stories are when Bovine and his men were attacked by the cannibalistic warriors in their territory and defeat the leader of the Wendols. Also in Beowulf, when the he and the warriors fight and kill Grendel in Herot, we can see the

    Upon hearing of the scourge of Heorot, Beowulf immediately journeys from the Geatland to an unbeknownst land to serve as a “match for Grendel” (Beowulf, 1245). This alone becomes instrumental in illustrating Beowulf’s role as the epic hero of the story.
