From learning about Hercules and the Twelve Labors, and then watching the Disney version of Hercules, I saw that the two are very different from each other, yet share likenesses, Many of the differences that we see between the two are caused by the plot change. The two plots differed from each other, due to the fact that the enemies and allies had been changed. This change by Disney, therefore created the difference that we see between the two. That, and of course, making the movie more family friendly influenced the overall plot. While the Disney movie Hercules is quite different from the original, Hercules and the Twelve Labors, they have several aspects in common.…

    1. The three stories are similar, because the theme in all three is that evil will be destroyed by water. In addition, in all three stories the main character is warned to build a boat to escape the flood, is told to save himself, his family, and sampling of animals, and the boat in all stories comes to rest on a mountain. Moreover, a great rain covers the land with water and all the boats/arcs land in a mountain in the Middle East while all the other mountains are underwater.…

Even though neither story were narratives, I could follow “The Epic of Gilgamesh” much better because it has more of a direct approach, there were only a few major characters which prevented confusion over whose lines I was reading, and it was ultimately centered around the hero without any interfering side stories which made it a lot easier for me to understand. In Sunjata’s story there were multiple stories being told which made it difficult to follow. It was also a challenge trying to keep up with the amount of characters in the story which lead to a lot of backtracking and rereading of lines trying to figure out who said what. Overall, both stories were engaging. Following two similar heroes along two totally different journeys in their lives to them becoming great leaders was…

Ayn Rand and George Orwell are the authors of the two novels, Anthem and Animal Farm. George Orwell based his novel, Animal Farm, on the Russian Revolution. He used allegory to make the characters come to life. Ayn Rand, the author of Anthem, wrote her novel purely of her own imagination and thoughts of what will become of the future. In the novels Anthem and Animal Farm, the plot takes place around an abusive leadership where they rebel for the freedom of the differences and from the strict government; however, they have different points of views and different resolution.…

One of the most specific similarities between To Kill a Mockingbird and the author are the names of her characters. Many of the names found in the book stem from the maiden name of her mother, Frances Cunningham Finch Lee (Flanchman). The main character’s family name of Finch is easy to spot, but several other characters claim their title from this, including Scout’s rotten cousin Francis and the Cunningham family. Lee followed a similar rule with Scout and Jem’s father, Atticus. Not only is his name very similar to her own father’s first name of Amasa, but his character corresponds with him as well.…

In "The Stripes Will Survive" by Jacqueline Adams, "The Zoos Go Wild" by Nicholas Nirgiotis and Theodore Nirgiotis, and the video “Behind The Scenes with the National Zoo’s Lion Cubs”, all of the texts claim that the role of zoos is to protect animals from extinction or from harmful things in the wild. Whether certain animals have potentially fatal diseases or are disabled in some way, zoo keepers are there to protect the animals and help them grow and strive in areas where they are not skilled. In "The Stripes Will Survive", the text explains what specialists are doing to prevent the extinction of Siberian tigers. Two twin Siberian tigers are included in the story to help the text flow into saying what is being done to help these endangered species. This nonfictional story is an example of how the role of zoos is to protect animals.…

Lion King Character Analysis Archetypes have been around for hundreds of years leaving their mark on every story created by mankind, even today archetypes still leave their mark on stories, like the movie The Lion King. In the movie The Lion King, directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, most of the characters presented from the movie fall into the one or more of the seven main character archetypes. From the hero to the trickster, there is no lack of archetypes in the Lion King. For example the characters Scar, Timon and Pumbaa, and Zazu fall into the archetypes, the dark power hungry Shadow figure , the wise Mentor, and the story starting Herald.…

Differences are also apparent in these two stories: a battle of good vs. evil and the offspring of a god/goddess, for example. Character flaws show up in almost every story ever told. In the “Epic of Gilgamesh”, Gilgamesh had a serious flaw, pride. He was the King of Uruk, and he knew it. He acted like a prideful, rude king who could care less about what other people…

Stories are told different ways after every generation, and that goes the same for fairy tales. Throughout time the main concept never changes, only by a slight bit. At first glance, Straparola story The Pig King would have nothing to do with the modern day adaption of Beauty and the Beast. However, the concept of the story is basically the same throughout, and these similarities lead me to believe that the, oh so famous, movie Beauty and the Beast originated from this tale. The symbolism throughout each story intertwines and creates one powerful theme about beauty.…
