The setting in “The Fall of the House of Usher” is the crumbling mansion and it has supernatural effects on the characters. Roderick Usher is a very mentally ill man, the white mansion that he lives in is very spooky looking. Roderick Usher imagines that the house has a mystical influence on him. The character in the story Roderick Usher is very ghostly and tormented, there’s a link between Roderick and the house. The white mansion gave Roderick Usher a narcosis. The setting in “Sunbleached” is based in a small Mississippi coastal town. The house they live in is a little banged up from a hurricane that came through in the last month. The details in both of these stories make it very graphic; enough where you can understand the full meaning of the stories. One of the graphic scenes in the “Sunbleached” is how it tells you how the story stats “He found his mother on the kitchen table. She had kicked some plates and silverware onto the floor in what had apparently been a brief struggle. Her head was hanging backward off the edge of the table, and she had been sloppily drained.
