Similarities Between Stepmom And Steel Magnolias

“Magnolias are prized worldwide for their flowers and forms. Growing as large shrubs or trees, they produce showy, fragrant flowers that are white, pink, red, purple or yellow” (Getting Started With Magnolias). Mothers are alike in these aspects to the flower. They come in many different shapes and sizes, like the flower, to show their beauty. They do not show how beautiful their peddles are but they show how to love their children unconditionally. Julia Roberts shows this in the movies Stepmom, where she is Isabell, and Steel Magnolias, where she plays the role of Shelby. In both of these movies Julia’s characters become a mother which have many qualities and characteristics, but having courage, being compassionate, and showing her independence were some that were highlighted in the two movies. …show more content…
Isabell showed courage in Stepmom by having her boss give her an ultimatum of choosing her work or going to pick up Anna and Ben. She picked them up and was fired from her job. Julia Roberts also showed that she had courage in Steel Magnolias by standing up to Shelby’s mother. She told her that she wanted to have a baby even though it was not in the best health for her character, Shelby. Both of the characters made many courageous actions throughout both movies but they also had differences. For instance, Shelby went ahead and had a baby and in the end she lost her life because of it and that is something she could never get back, while Isabell only lost her job and jobs are
