Firstly, the characters in She’s the Man and Twelfth Night are very different. In She's the Man, Viola is portrayed as more aggressive while in Twelfth Night, she is carefree being a servant. In the play, Viola disguises herself like a man and names herself Cesario. She only plays the role of Cesario throughout the play. Meanwhile, Viola disguises as Sebastian for different purposes. Also, she switches from Viola to Sebastian often in the movie. In the play, Viola faces many challenges as a “man”. For example, Olivia liked Cesario (who was really a girl) which made things awkward. Also, she was surprised and scared when Sir Toby announced that there would be a duel that involved “him.” In the movie, Viola had no duels, but she had a hard time acting like a man. She would constantly repeat her phrases to make it sound more man-like. “What does your heart tell you? I mean… who would you rather see NAKED?” As you can see, she said her first phrase like a normal person, and repeated her second phrase trying to act like a guy. In opinion, you can clearly see that She’s the Man and Twelfth Night aren’t very similar at all. The main characters have different traits from the movie than the play, the impersonation is for different reasons and the cross dressing is dissimilar. She’s the Man was more of a comedy and Twelfth Night was more of romantic. Although the play was different from the movie, I enjoyed them both very
