Romeo and Juliet can be very similar in many ways in both Zeffirelli and Luhrmanns versions. In both versions there are the same lines or scripts read by the same characters. In both films the Montagues taunt and tempt the Capulets to fight them and make them mad. Both films show the Montagues starting a fight and biting their thumb at the Capulets starting a fight. Then the two groups getting into a huge fight because of it. And both groups have a 3rd “civil” war and end up getting broken up by the “Prince”. To sum up both similarities led to the same outcome as the other, a war.

Romeo and Juliet can also be very different between the two stories. In the Zeffirelli version the Montagues were not very scared of the Capulets and wanted to

    Written in 1594, the historically significant play by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, has been adapted numerously throughout the years, including a traditional film version directed by Franco Zeffirelli in 1968 and a modern edition by Baz Luhrmann in 1996. As in the play, the meeting between Juliet and Romeo instigates the tragedy, with both directors utilising mise-en-scene and sound differently in this scene.
