In Act Three, scene one of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare two deaths occur and a battle erupts. Romeo and Tybalt fight and Tybalt is killed. However, Tybalt killed Romeo's best friend, Mercutio, which set off Romeo. Although they share some general similarities, the differences in their language, where the fight scene is, the weapons they use are what make the 1968 movie version by Zeffirelli more effective than the 1996 Luhmann version. Some similarities between the two versions are that the fight between Mercutio, Tybalt, and Romeo takes place in the afternoon. Also, the opening scene for both is worry free and light hearted but the mood is turned around quickly. Lastly, Mercutio goes from happy to angry when Tybalt shows up. Then

The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a story of great tragedy but often overlooked is the tragedy of the first character in the play to die. The character Mercutio is not a minor character with only a few lines, but is in fact a central influencer of how the play unfolds. Although Mercutio is killed early on in the play, his actions and death set in motion the events that lead to the title characters’ eventual deaths. Since he is neutral to both the Capulet and Montague families, Mercutio is the catalyst for Romeo and Juliet to meet each other. Finally, as one of Romeo’s closest friends and one who knows of Romeo’s relationship with Juliet, he encourages the relationship to grow despite the opposition of both families.…

I believe that the Zeffirelli version does a better job of presenting the original Shakespeare play. While lines were slightly changed, and certain scenes were deleted, or added, this version is a more classic, and traditional retelling of Romeo and Juliet. One reason why this version is better, is because of the production, and the ways in which the scenes were depicted. In the modern version, the scenes were exaggerated to an extent where they became too cheesy, and extreme. While it followed the plot more accurately, it was poorly made.…

In the play Romeo and Juliet, Tybalt and Mercutio have a duel, and Mercutio dies. We chose to reenact this scene because it causes a most of conflicts and it lets us see the different sides of the characters. Additionally, it separated Romeo and Juliet, leaving them heartbroken. We interpreted Romeo’s character as we did in our play because he is ecstatic that he just married Juliet, which also explains why he skips around the stage.…

In Conclusion, I think that Romeo is a young, inexperienced and impatient but loyal and brave boy. I think that his naivety plays a huge rule in this because love was taken as an extravagant feeling to have when it was not truly happy as the lovers can experience heartbreak and many other obstacles. It seems as if Romeo only more cautious and deliberate, his devastating ending could have been prevented (even though we have not finished the book yet). Amongst friends especially Mercutio, Romeo shows signs of his social and quick witted persona, even with his fond of verbal jousting that is mainly about sex. Lastly, Romeo is like every other male in the world who only unveils their true self to the people who they trust or who understand them.…

In Shakespear’s and Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet, there are many similarities, but there are also many different substantial differences that can change the impression the viewer may get if they only watch the movie without reading the play. To begin, there are many similarities between Zeffirelli 's and Shakespeare 's Romeo and Juliet. One similarity is that Romeo is very moody; in the beginning of the movie, Romeo can be seen frequently slumped over and talking in a very downcast manner. Similarly, in the play, Romeo is found by Benvolio laying moping around saying, “Should without eyes see pathways to his will!” (I.i.162).…

Baz Lurhmann’s film Romeo + Juliet takes Shakespeare’s classic tragedy and drastically modernizes the tale. Although there have been numerous reenactments, on and off the stage, Lurhmann creates one of the most drastic versions seen. With this drastic take the fidelity of the film takes into account. Although the look of the film is not exactly what Shakespeare imagined the themes and characters are mostly true to the play. For instance, Act 3 Scene 1 (the death scene for Mercutio and Tybalt) has all the correct lines, but some actions are different.…
